It’s been over 50 years since the Knicks won their last championship, but did you know that the current logo is 35 years old? Artist, graphic designer, and Coney Island native Michael Doret received a direct request from the NBA to create something different from what the Knicks were using at the time. Doret credits his design as subconscious inspiration.
Driving distracted used to mean texting, but now it’s escalated to watching a TikTok or YouTube. Car crash fatalities have been on the rise since the pandemic, with newer drivers and those in their 20s exhibiting this behavior the most. Even worse is when drivers are making video content while driving, a phenomenon that has increased thanks to platforms like Twitch. Only two states (Connecticut and Virginia) have laws that ban the driver from streaming or livestreaming, but we need further action immediately.
Your political affiliation didn’t used to be a death notice, but a recent study shows that conservatives are dying at significantly higher rates than liberals. Republicans are dying from stroke, heart disease, and cancer due to the growing distrust in doctors and medicine, an idea that has been growing thanks to right-wing politicians and ever-growing misinformation. Beliefs can kill!
Social Security is in danger. One of the trust funds–used to pay benefits when they exceed payroll tax income–is projected to run out in late 2032. If that happens, Social Security will only be able to pay 78% of retirement benefits. The worst part: this problem has been identified for decades, but Congress has not done anything to act on it.
This decade currently has no distinct sound. Now, this is definitely low on the list of problems to solve for the 2020s, but unlike the previous decades, there is no specific sound that captures this time period. We can blame a couple of factors here: time, money, originality, and access. The most distinct sound is closest to club and electronic music, but the sound that will capture this decade is more likely something we don’t even know about yet.
